Our 5 best Runway Bridal Gown Looks for Spring/Summer and How to Replicate Them

The Spring 2020 Bridal Fashion Week held in New York showcased an array of spectacular wedding gowns, from comfort to works of art.  Intricate designs, structured jackets, minimalist looks and pops of colour were all featured on the runway.

As few of us can spare the luxury of a quick rendezvous to the Big Apple (especially when planning a wedding), our extensive Modes bridal collection includes a range of imported bridal gowns from Europe and New York.

If you’re planning a Spring/Summer wedding, it’s important to consider both the climate and setting – and a style that keeps you feeling fresh and comfortable throughout the day.  For inspiration, we’ve pegged out our top five favourite runway looks for the coming season, with ideas on how to replicate them close to home.

1. Galia Lahav

Israeli fashion designer Gahlia established the Galia Lahav House of Couture in 1984 in Tel-Aviv, providing bridal and evening wear focusing on couture and luxury apparel.  We love this classic, strapless gown from her latest collection, topped with an exquisite cathedral veil with intricate detailing.

For ideas on how to replicate this classy, elegant look, look no further than the Modes Pronovias bridal gown range.  This collection incorporates light fabrics ideal for comfort during the warmer season, with optional arm cover.

2. Alice Temperley
English fashion designed Alice Temperley prides her bridal designs on exquisite creations that are ethereal, decadent and deeply romantic.  This off-the-shoulder bohemian style gown in rose lace with heart-shaped crystal embroidery is neither traditional nor over-the-top.  It won our hearts for its classic, ‘reminiscent of old times’ look, with a touch of glamour.

A beach, garden or vineyard setting provides the ideal backdrop for a boho-inspired look.  Create your individual style at Modes with one of our sultry, elegant, boho-style gowns with matt lace.

3. Savannah Miller
The sister of Sienna Miller is a British-American fashion designer with her own bridal collection.  Echoing bridal styles that focus on an elegant back, is this classy design features an open strap back with a light showering of tulle for sophistication and modesty.

Flashing a little flesh to keep cool whilst maintaining the requisite air of elegance and modesty for walking down the aisle is a delicate balance!  Plunging and portrait backs, such as this one for Modes, walk the fine line between demure and sexy.

4. Vera Wang
American fashion designer Vera Wang knows a thing or two about creating the best looks.  The former Vogue Fashion Editor and Ralph Lauren Design Director with her own signature bridal collection is quoted as saying that she “can’t design anything without thinking about how a woman’s body will look and move when she’s wearing it.”
Among Ms Wang’s runway bridal looks this season are pops of bold colour, together with a more mainstream bridal palette of soft ivory, gold and silver laces, hints of pastel blue tulle, and nude and rusty tones.

Colour is a growing trend in bridal gowns, providing the perfect opportunity to show off personal style, with the bonus of offering wider options for flattering individual skin-tone.  For advice on which tone/s to choose, talk to the team at Modes.

5. Lela Rose
Lela Rose is an American fashion designer who has designed outfits for many Hollywood A-listers, including Jessica Alba, Ashley Judd and the Olsen twins.  Her bridal collection focuses on sculptural silhouettes and luxurious fabrics and is sold at premium stores including Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Amongst her premium collection this season is this simple midi dress with a light bodice, widening the choice for brides looking for a lighter summer gown that’s easy to move in.

Although lace is generally considered light, certain varieties are heavier than others. For a cooler, breathable summer option that’s soft and romantic, we recommend you try one of our styles in a lighter, Chantilly-style lace.
